Welcome to the National First Nations Housing & Homelessness Forum

We are proud to announce the return of the National First Nations Housing & Homelessness Forum.

This year’s theme honours the strength, leadership and innovation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, communities that continue to lead the way in transforming housing and homelessness outcomes across the country.

As Australia works towards Closing the Gap, one truth remains undeniable: safe, secure and culturally appropriate housing is foundational. It is the foundation for health, wellbeing, educational attainment, economic participation, cultural connection and community strength. Yet meaningful progress will not be achieved through short-term responses or business-as-usual approaches. It will require sustained investment, genuine partnership, and a clear commitment to community-controlled solutions.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations hold the cultural authority, lived experience, trust and expertise needed to design and deliver housing responses that work, not only for individuals, but for families, communities and future generations. When communities lead, outcomes are stronger, more sustainable and more culturally grounded.

Across the country, there is growing momentum. Community-led housing models are expanding. Cultural design principles are being embedded into developments. There is increasing recognition that housing is far more than shelter, it is a critical platform for dignity, stability, self-determination and long-term economic independence. At the same time, we know the task ahead remains significant. Too many of our people continue to experience housing insecurity and homelessness, and too many communities are still waiting for the scale of reform and investment required.

This forum is an opportunity to bring leaders, practitioners, governments, industry and communities together to share practical solutions, strengthen partnerships, and elevate the voices of those driving change on the ground.

Together, we hold the knowledge, the leadership and the solutions to deliver stronger housing outcomes and reduce homelessness for our people. I look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne this September for what will be a powerful, purposeful and nationally significant gathering.
